HOW TO NAVIGATE THE WINTER BLUES

HOW TO NAVIGATE THE WINTER BLUES

I love the transformation winter brings - the crisp freshness, beautiful landscapes and cozy moments by the fire.

For some of us, though, this season brings a palpable heaviness and feelings of seclusion.

Sound familiar? Read on to learn how to kick SAD to the curb this winter!

What exactly is SAD?

As the days get shorter and sunlight becomes scarce, our bodies struggle to produce enough serotonin (the feel-good chemical) leading to a dip in our mood.

1 GOOD EATS

The first line of defense against SAD is to prioritize self-care. Re-evaluate that diet and embrace a nutrient-rich foods for a long-term boost in energy!

2 Get SOCIAL

It's tempting to hibernate, but isolation can worsen SAD symptoms. Prioritize getting together, even if it's a virtual coffee date with a friend or a cozy game night. Surrounding yourself with positive vibes and laughter can do wonders for your mental well-being.

3 Soak up the SUN

Take advantage of bright winter days by going for a brisk walk or spending some time outdoors. Natural light is a proven mood booster - vitamin D can go a long way.

If you find yourself struggling, don't hesitate to seek help.

Remember, you're definitely not alone - 15% of Canadians  experience this! Reach out to friends, family, or a mental health professional for support.

Here's wishing you a memorable fun-filled winter season!
